"Michigan LOVES HOCKEY OMG!" - McDonalds

I'm sure you've seen that commercial (maybe not), apparently an attempt by McDonald's to seem friendly and intimate with Michigan, in which they say something like, "There are a few things we value in Michigan: Hockey, skiing, other words, hockey, more words, another example, and hockey." They show images of that then promote their product, ending with the narrator saying, "ba da ba ba ba, Hockey!"

Ok, so I get that we're close to Canada, and we have the Red Wings, but seriously, I wasn't aware that hockey was that big of a deal in Michigan. The only person I know who played hockey was my cousin Dave, and he lived in Pennsylvania. It just irritates me that these advertisers obviously have no idea what we REALLY value in Michigan ("Soo, Michigan has lots of snow... I think they like hockey there. Let's go with that"), or they have like one Michigander on their advertising team who was some hockey fanatic, and said, "OMG, guys, I'm from Michigan, and lemme tell you, we LOOOURVE hockey there! Haha hooboy!" Iuno, maybe I'm wrong about this, but I never got a big "hockey vibe" from living here.

Iuno, last I heard, Michigan had the highest number of youth hockey programs in the nation. Not that I'm motivated enough to look that up.

Haha-I like this post. I'm sure there are lots of Michiganders who love hockey, but I definitely don't think it's something Michigan is known for. (they didn't wanna bring up the auto industry because it's a touchy subject?) I haven't seen this commercial though; I'll watch for it!

who are the two? Mike would make one. I didn't know that about michigan... I'm not motivated to look it up either so I'll trust it.

It's still just an annoying commercial though, haha. Perhaps true about autos... what a clever girl!

I agree with your post. It seems very obvious to me that whoever wrote the commercial is not from Michigan, and the actor is definitely not from Michigan. This commercial is annoying me almost as much as the hunger "pain" vs "pangs" commercial, and I don't usually get annoyed by commercials. I'm not sure what makes me want to vomit more, the McDonald's food or their commercials?

you guys are stupid as hell. Most of the AAA teams here are world wide, we have the USA development teams in ANN ARBOR and all those kids go D1, ALL the best hockey players played for USA and there are tons of junior teams in and around michigan. NOT to mention that U of M has one of the most world wide renowned and recognized D1 team. HALF of this years BC championship team played for USA in Michigan. You guys obviously know NOTHING about hockey.

Ok asshole. That's not the point. The point is that they make it seem like hockey is this huge deal to most everyone in Michigan when it's really not... Clearly it is to you, and that's fine, but to most people I don't think it is, and whether or not we have some good teams and players doesn't really make a difference. That's what I'm getting at. And yeah, I know nothing about hockey, like probably most people in Michigan, haha.

Hmm, I think most people know about hockey, just some aren't as into it as others... And btw I absolutely LOVE that McDonald's commerical. And it is the possibility that you weren't "raised" watching hockey or sports of any sort... so thats why you may not think that it is a big deal... but in all reality, it is a BIG DEAL. :]

Maybe you're right... I guess I wasn't raised on it and I didn't know of many people who were into it... Sigh. Maybe someday they'll have a more Michigany commercial in my eyes!
